The Ethereal Woman
Blending craft, nature, and ritual, this group project explored the historical power of beads as symbols of femininity and connection, brought to life through a photographic triptych and exhibition installation.
Project Brief
The Ethereal Woman was created in response to a brief exploring fashion’s cultural and historical contexts through looking into our fashion obsessions. Our aim was to investigate the symbolism and history of beads across time and in various cultures, culminating in a visual representation that explored these meanings through the lens of femininity and spirituality with a focus on connection. The final work was presented as part of a curated student exhibition.
The final outcome was a set of three editorial images displayed as a photographic triptych, alongside our physical jewellery pieces in the exhibition. This image is one of the final selected pieces.
Project strategy, Idea and Creative Concept development
Our concept was inspired by the cultural and spiritual history of beads, with a particular focus on femininity, spirituality and connection.
The visual development of this project involved creating moodboards of different visual references to create our final concept. We chose to use soft fabrics, neutral tones and an outdoor location to create a delicate, ethereal atmosphere.
We wanted to create something emotionally engaging yet visually striking to stand out within the student led exhibition. The triptych and beaded items worked well together to communicate our message and tell the visual story.
